Volunteer Update: Week of Feb. 10, 2013

On Thursday, we had plenty of rain at Garden Square, but we made some progress on two locations. Larry Summerlin hung the interior doors in 3616 Erwin Drive. There is no way this project could have been as developed as far it has with out Larry’s advice, equipment or his volunteering. Larry has been and is a blessing to this ministry. We also had a new Transforming Minister, Mike Romanowski, join us at the Transformation Center. He is real self-starter. Mike removed some paneling and plaster which will enable us to seal some walls. Terry and Callie Williams did a great job getting the remaining debris out of the south end of the center so it can be pressure washed. Steve MacInnis and I removed paneling off a wall where a leak had damaged it. We also opened up an exterior entrance and framed a door opening. Larry advised me how to finish the project to make the door function better.

Walter Nanney and Alex Ansley worked Friday on 3509 Manley Drive. Larry Summerlin came back Saturday and did more work on 3616 Manley Drive.

This coming week, I plan on working at the Center Monday and Tuesday. If you would like to join me please call or text me at 549-2175. We will be working on one of the houses Thursday. I will e-mail details later, as it’s too soon to tell exactly what we willing be doing that day.

I spoke with the president of a pastors group from another town who wants to have their monthly meeting at the Transformation Center and learn about the ministry. They are looking for ministries where their parishes can serve in central Alabama. This coming week, I am going to meet with a young man who is a product of the Frazer youth ministry who is involved in micro-financing and business start-ups. On Ash Wednesday night, I am attending the Advisory Board meeting of Catholic Social Services where Arch Bishop Rodi is speaking. Arch Bishop Rodi has been encouraging all the Catholic parishes in the Mobile Archdiocese to get involved with the Circles of Transformation. Next week, we will meet with MTECH, which is the new MPS technical school that will be housed in the old Montgomery Mall. They are looking for locations to train their students in real life situations. They have invited four nonprofit housing groups to meet with them.

The Frazer men’s ministry will be coming February 23 to volunteer at the Transformation Center. They will be clearing undergrowth and small trees from the fence lines. Tom Hollingshead stopped by Saturday afternoon to survey the situation in preparation for this act of ministry. Looking forward to a great day with the Frazer’s Men’s Ministry.

Great Day of Service: The Discovery Sunday School Class will be doing a ministry project, details TBA (it is too soon to know what we will need done that day) and there will also be a GDOS sponsored Friendship Party with a possibility of 400 – 500 neighborhood friends attending.

There is a lot gong on, but there is a lot to do and a lot groups that want to get involved.. We are beginning to start organizing our relational ministries with our friends from the community. Peggy has already begun this process.

Come join us in serving God by serving our neighbors. –Rev. Charlie Kendall
