When Helping Hurts

Transformation Montgomery is dedicated to the idea that good intentions are not enough to bring about lasting change. Too often, volunteers and organizations with good intentions to help those in poverty can inadvertently hurt them by creating a dignity-destroying relationship of dependency.

That’s why we ask volunteers who want to get involved with our Transformation Teams to first go through the When Helping Hurts workshop to clarify the values that underlie our work, and equip us to make a lasting difference in our community.
